The Beauty of Words

This past Friday I had the opportunity to speak to a group of grade nine girls.  It’s always awesome to be in front of young ladies who are at the crossroads of being a little girl and blossoming into women.

The focus of this See Inner Beauty Seminar was on the choice of words.   The negative self-talk we torture ourselves with can be so harmful.  Not only that but, the words we use towards others also have long-lasting effects.  I shared stories of personal experiences from my youth being a 14-15 year-old and navigating through crushes, friendships and just trying to fit in.

The girls were challenged to speak positive thoughts and use positive words.  The challenge is to use words that will build each other up.

I am a firm believer that the expression “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.”  is FALSE.  Whoever said that words don’t hurt was telling a lie.  Words have such a lasting effect because they can shape the way we think and feel about ourself.  It can alter the decisions we make.

The beauty of words is that you have the power to choose them.  Choose them wisely.  Instead of tearing someone down.  How about using your words to build someone up?
