When I speak to young women on issues of beauty, body image and self-esteem, one of the things I often talk about is the fact that women don’t see themselves as beautiful. I once read that 97% of women don’t find themselves beautiful. Isn’t that crazy? That number represents almost all women.
How do you see yourself? Have you ever looked in the mirror and said, “I’m beautiful.”? Probably not likely. Women often describe themselves differently than others see them. Your friends, spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, family and peers probably can see the beauty in you that you don’t even see yourself.
Take a look at this video by Dove as an experiment to prove how much we don’t see ourselves the same way others do. It’s a very interesting video and will probably start some great conversation. Check it out and let me know what you think.
